As part Women Enhancing Technology (WeTech), a group of 60 selected girls from middle and high school in Bangalore were mentored by 24 senior leaders from Goldman Sachs and Qualcomm to develop mobile apps and comprehensive business plans that will fuel economic and technological growth in India. In the span of three months, these girls have invented a wide-range of creative apps that address community problems ranging from assistance with career planning and finding study buddies to organizing patient medical histories and creating doctor profiles. A grand closing ceremony to give these girls a chance to pitch their apps in front of distinguished audience was organized in association with 10000 Startups Girls in Tech Program on 19th July 2014 at Ritz Carlton Bangalore.
Top five teams pitched their apps and their business plans to a panel of judges included
First Spot: B Safe: In the event a woman feesl insecure in a locality, ‘B SAFE’ marks the locations of her contacts on the map who are closest to her location and whom she can reach out to for help. Girls were from 11th grade Jain PU College Bangalore
Second Spot: Awetism Buddy: Awetism Buddy is a combination of a routine manager, integrator for other autism apps on hobbies and social skill , a community for parents and children and an information hub on autism care takers, therapists and support groups. Girls were from 8th grade at Baldwin Girls High School Bangalore
Third Spot: Study Buddy: Study Buddy, StudyBuddy is a customizable and scalable networking app which connects you to the right set of people within your institution who are willing to help you with the topics that you struggle with. The ‘Bulletin Board’ is an additional feature through which you can post ads to buy, sell or rent study material like books, notes, presentations etc. Students can award the volunteer virtual coins and thus create a healthy competitive environment. StudyBuddy aims to nourish the learning experience of students within the institution and reduce the cost of their extra tuitions. The girls were from grade 11th NPS Indiranagar
It was amazing to be a part of this event, to see the energy and enthusiasm of the school/college girls, their inclination toward tech world and the will to solve the social problems.
