Kolkata, the most happening city of India has something fresh. You might be thinking what is new that might be brewing. The Happening is – ‘NASSCOM 10K Start-ups’ (www.10000startups.com). Those who don’t know about this company or organisation, 10000startups is one of India’s most ambitious start-up programs. 10,000 Start-ups is an initiative of NASSCOM with Google as prime sponsor. It is aimed at incubating, funding and supporting 10,000 technology start-ups in India over the next ten years. The program is supported by Google, Microsoft, Intel, Verisign, Kotak Bank and almost every other Accelerator, Incubator, Angel Network, Venture Capital Fund from India and abroad.
In this era of globalisation & modernization, NASSCOM had taken an initiative in association with Indian Angle Network of organising an Open House Pitching Session in Kolkata on 17th February, 2015. The event witnessed 75+ high quality entrepreneurs, business leaders & government officials. Amidst the audience, Mr. Satish Tewary, IT Secretary Govt. Of West Bengal highlighted the Government’s Policies and Incentive Schemes for start-ups in West Bengal. He also mentioned the government’s plan to launch a Venture Capital Fund in the state to support budding entrepreneurs. Ravi Ranjan from NASSCOM Start-up Warehouse shared details about 10K Start-up Program, selection process and benefits of starting-up at the Warehouse in Kolkata.
The event was also attended by Anurag Batra, Chairman & Editor in Chief Exchange 4 media & Business world, expressing the interest of collaborating with the 10K Start-up Program to mentor start-ups at Business World Incubator in New Delhi
Nidhi Saraf from Indian Angle Network shared how Indian Angle Networking is looking to invest in high-quality start-ups from eastern part of the country. She spoke about IAN’s plan of launching a physical Incubator in Mumbai, and making investments in social enterprises.
There was a pitching round for Indian Angle Network. 20+ start-ups had pitched their ideas and received feedback on the spot.
The event was a success, marking the growing share of start-ups and entrepreneurship in the Indian business economy. Hope Nasscom’s 10000 Start-ups Initiative will re-define and take Kolkata at the highest of the development ladder.
