India continues to retain its’ strong positioning of the third largest startup ecosystem in the world. Indian startups have been creating innovative tech solutions that are making significant economic and social contributions. There is a high interest from global investors in India’s growth opportunity with the abundance of startups offering innovative solutions and having the potential of growing into scalable and profitable businesses.

The NASSCOM Global VC Connect Program is an initiative to connect the Indian tech startup ecosystem and the global venture capital community. Our aim is to support Indian Startups looking to raise funds and provide access to growth capital from global investors. The program is also focused on connecting global investors with the best tech startups across India, ensuring credibility, structure and ease while making this important connect.

The program started out in 2019 in partnership with Embassy of India, Tokyo as Japan VC Connect to access the investor community in Japan. From there on we have delivered one physical edition in Tokyo and 6 virtual pitch sessions in last 6 months, with high levels of traction between the startups and investors. There are 6+ startups that have raised funding through the VC connects made in this program. For more details click here. Today we are excited to be extending this program to other geographies in the world. Our current offering will include the European Union, Korea, Singapore and Japan.

Format

Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic and travel restrictions, the program has been reinvented to a virtual pitching format that will remain till needed. The startups connect with the VCs through e-pitching sessions to generate preliminary interest for the presenting startups. Each presenting organisation is allocated 15 minutes for their pitch. Post these sessions startups can take forward the discussions with the interested VCs on a one-on-one basis. The program addresses startups through a sectoral approach where in every pitch session organized by NASSCOM has 5-7 curated startups from specific sectors where investors from respective regions have shown interest.

We endeavour to collect the preference list from investors beforehand to be able to map the right / qualifying startup from the Indian side that fits the bill on varied criteria such as verticals, technology blend, size, opportunity size, etc. On the basis of this preference list, Indian startups are shortlisted and subsequently showcased to ensure the program is result oriented for all participants. Typically, we have seen majority of interest emerging from these verticals in this era - Mobility / Supply Chain, Healthtech / Personnel Hygiene, Agritech / Food, Fintech, Clean Tech, Media/Entertainment & Robotics in the Retail and Telecom sectors.
